New home for vulnerable Hardap family
Through engagements with local communities, the Hardap governor's office recently identified the plight of Johanna, who has been caring for her late sister’s disabled child under extremely difficult conditions.
The family had been living in a poorly constructed shack, which made it particularly challenging to endure the rainy season.
While acknowledging the broader need for durable brick housing across Namibia, Hardap governor Riaan McNab intervened through the Cash for Work programme to improve the family’s living conditions. A safer and more secure corrugated iron structure was constructed, ensuring better protection against harsh weather. The initiative also prioritised local economic empowerment by engaging skilled workers from the community to carry out the construction. -Aurelia Afrikaner
