Walvis Bay boosts sewer infrastructure

The Walvis Bay municipality has strengthened efforts to improve service delivery with the acquisition of two specialised sewer maintenance trucks valued at N$12.5 million.

The two vehicles, supplied by Hino and Pupkewitz, are equipped with automatic transmissions and specialised tanks, pumps, valves, hydraulic systems and controls designed specifically for sewer maintenance operations.

"The acquisition of these specialised vehicles will significantly strengthen the municipality's sewer network cleaning programme and support ongoing maintenance activities at the wastewater treatment plant," Walvis Bay mayor Johannes Shimbilinga said last week.

“Through regular and thorough cleaning of sewer lines and associated infrastructure, the municipality aims to reduce sewer overflows and blockages while improving the overall efficiency and reliability of the sewer system," he added.

Fresh roads

On road repairs, the mayor explained that several projects are currently underway throughout Walvis Bay. An active pothole repair programme is being carried out, with three teams working across the town.

"We understand that while significant progress is being made, road repairs are being carried out in phases based on priority, available resources and contractor programmes,” the mayor said.

“We recognise that residents would like to see all roads addressed as soon as possible; however, road rehabilitation is a process that requires careful planning, resources and time to ensure quality and lasting results.”
