207 Erongo Marine workers receive N$45 000 each
Erongo Marine Harambee Workers Trust marked Workers’ Day this year by paying out N$9.3 million to 207 employees, with each beneficiary receiving N$45 000 before tax.
The 207 recipients are permanent workers of Erongo Marine Enterprises and Commercial Cold Storage Namibia.
“The consistency of the trust’s annual payouts is something we are immensely proud of,” trust chairperson Charlett Kambongarera said.
“In an environment where many Namibians are experiencing economic strain, it is important to highlight initiatives that continue to deliver real value and tangible support to workers year after year,” she added.
The 2026 payout marks another consecutive year of payments since the trust’s establishment.
Since inception, the trust has distributed more than N$40 million to its beneficiaries, with each annual payment contributing meaningfully to improved livelihoods for employees and their families.
Workers’ prosperity
In a statement issued by Erongo Marine Enterprises, the trust said it is guided by its core purpose, “to assist in the upliftment, empowerment and financial prosperity of its beneficiaries".
The N$9.3 million distribution is funded from dividends received from Arechanab Fishing and Development Company (Pty) Ltd and Commercial Cold Storage Namibia (Pty) Ltd, in which the trust holds equity interests.
Established in 2017 by Erongo Marine Enterprises, the trust was created to advance broad-based economic empowerment by granting permanent employees a direct stake in the horse mackerel right-holding company, Arechanab Fishing and Development Company, of which Erongo Marine Enterprises is a shareholder.
In 2021, the trust expanded its investment portfolio through the acquisition of equity in Commercial Cold Storage Namibia, the largest and most advanced cold storage facility in Namibia, located at the Port of Walvis Bay.
On behalf of all beneficiaries, the board of trustees extended its appreciation to Arechanab Fishing and Development Company and Commercial Cold Storage Namibia for their sustained contribution to the success of the trust.
The board further acknowledged Erongo Marine Enterprises, whose establishment of the trust in 2017 laid the foundation for meaningful employee participation in equity-based empowerment within Namibia’s fishing value chain.
