NamRA employees’ ethics reason for performance
• NamRA staff praised
NamRA commissioner Sam Shivute says the agency has clearly demonstrated its commitment to fight corruption.
Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) commissioner Sam Shivute says the tax-collecting agency’s success is attributable to the ethics displayed by its employees.
Shivute made the remarks at the launch of the agency’s integrity programme last week.
“Truth be told, when you have an institution, sometimes it's only one or two bad apples; it’s not the whole institution and it cannot be. You guys collect billions in total revenue collected, and for one to be able to get that, it’s also a testimony that we have many good men and women working for the best interest of this country,” Shivute said.
Strong work ethic
NamRA has shown that it puts its money where its mouth is as far as its fight against corruption is concerned.
“Give me any other institution in this country where, in one year, the money was recovered and three people were arrested, people coming with money to bribe our officials, and they have been exposed, they have been arrested, and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating that," Shivute said.
He underlined that there is clear evidence that the agency’s fight against corruption is bearing fruit.
“Give me any other institution that has demonstrated the fight against corruption. It’s just not about talking; the action is there, the cases are in court, people have been suspended and therefore, we are working towards building a world-class agency,” Shivute said.
Shivute said as part of the organisation's goal of strengthening the fight against corruption, "we are also working towards putting in place mechanisms to ensure integrity is not compromised."
