EDITORIAL: Namibia must watch out for global hypocrisy
The war raging between Israel and Palestine has brought the worst out of humanity. It’s clear that when it comes to national interest, truth and objectivity have become non-factors. That’s why countries like Namibia must never even listen to the idea of shelving its pursuit of fossil fuels for the supposed good of the world. The world is not united. It’s every man for himself, and God for all of us. Friends of Israel do not care what their ally does in Gaza. There is no call for restraint on bombardments or careful and pointed chase of Hamas ‘terrorists’ so that the innocent, especially the children, may live. The Western media’s first question to all Palestinian intellectuals such as Mustafa Barghouti is whether they condemn last week’s attack on Israel. When Israel attacks Palestine, questions of condemnation do not arise. It’s therefore clear that global unity and humanity are mere illusions. We are not even allowed to have an opinion on this war – unless it conforms to the Israeli apartheid agenda. This is straitjacket nuthouse insanity and global dictatorship on steroids. Truth and fairness are the least discussed factors in this war. Namibia should thus learn from these events and realise that national interest should always prevail, even when we’re urged to subscribe to the global agenda. Where such agenda contradicts our national aspirations, we must refuse to touch it with a bargepole.
