Murder accused denied bail
Victim died on the spot
The incident took place last Thursday at around 19:00 at Asiyenda farm in the Ncaute village.
A man who stands accused of shooting and killing his colleague was denied bail in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Robert Popyeni Jacob (43) appeared before magistrate Sonia Samupofu, who postponed the case to 7 May for further investigations.
State prosecutor Michael Munika opposed bail on the grounds that it is not in the interest of the public and that the accused may interfere with the ongoing police investigation.
According to Namibian Police chief inspector Raimbert Muronga, the incident took place last Thursday at around 19:00 at Asiyenda farm in the Ncaute village in the Kavango East Region.
According to Muronga, the suspect shot Peter Musongo (33) in his head with a shotgun. He died on the spot.
“Both the suspect and the deceased were workers at the farm. The suspect did not have authorisation to possess or use the shotgun,” he said.
“Further charges will be laid against the owner of the firearm in terms of the [Arms and Ammunition Act],” Muronga added.
Police investigations continue.
