Matter of fact: Hoff not guilty
On 27 June, in an article titled ‘Hoff's claim against ex-husband fails’, Namibian Sun reported that an application by Susanne Hoff had been dismissed by the Windhoek High Court after she had demanded almost N$1 million in damages from her ex-husband, Egbert Hoff.
The article was about a financial dispute between the former couple. However, it also referred to an earlier court case, in which Hoff had been accused of trying to have her husband killed.
In 2017, Hoff had indeed been convicted by the magistrate's court of the attempted murder of her ex-husband.
This after she in November 2011 attempted to recruit hitmen to kill Egbert. She was sentenced to pay a fine of N$30 000 or serve six months in prison or alternatively perform 300 hours of community service.
The article refers to that conviction, but failed to mention that Hoff successfully appealed the verdict in 2018.
The conviction was annulled in its entirety by the High Court.
