Man shoots, kills son
A 57-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his son at Iitananga village in the Oshana Region’s Okaku constituency.
Joseph Paulus appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday on two counts: Attempted murder, alternatively assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and murder read with the provisions of the Combatting of Domestic Violence Act.
He was granted N$4 000 bail by magistrate Mozay Jansen on condition that he may not commit a similar offence while out on bail.
Jansen also ordered the accused not to interfere with ongoing police investigations or state witnesses.
It is alleged his son, Wilhelm Tangeni Paulus (29), came back from Ondangwa late at night and allegedly knocked at the house’s door, demanding a cellphone charger.
“After the mother gave him the charger, he refused to go to his room and had allegedly started a scuffle and assaulted his mother and the children at home as well as his female neighbour,” Oshana police spokesperson, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, said.
He added that the accused, who is physically disabled, came out of his bedroom and fired four rounds towards the deceased with his licenced private firearm. The shots killed Wilhelm instantly and injured the neighbour.
The second victim, a 25-year-old woman, sustained a fractured right arm.
Aiyambo said she is currently receiving treatment at Onandjokwe hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition.
The State was represented by Martha Hasheela. Joseph’s case has been remanded to 16 May 2023 for further police investigations.
