Community activist arrested, released after Windhoek sewage protest
NEWS IN SHORT
Community activist Shaun Gariseb, who handed himself over at the Katutura Police Station on Monday, was arrested yesterday and released shortly afterwards.
According to his lawyer Kadhila Amoomo, Gariseb will appear in the Katutura Magistrate Court on 18 November.
Last week Monday, the activist led a group of community members to the City of Windhoek customer care office and threw buckets of raw sewage water by the municipality's entrance.
Gariseb was charged with incitement to cause public violence and an additional charge of obstruction and public indecency.
“We came to make sure that the City officials have a ‘kak Monday,’” Gariseb said last week. “We made sure it smells as bad as it smells where we live.”
