SHORT NEWS: Prime Minister urged govt to stop awarding tenders to failing contractors
Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare yesterday expressed frustration over the continued failure of contractors to deliver on government projects.
Ngurare expressed the dismay when he inspected the Mururani checkpoint sanitation facility.
For the second time in just over a week, Ngurare arrived to find the site deserted, with no workers and no visible progress.
Standing among unfinished walls and half-built structures, he did not hold back.
“Government cannot keep awarding tenders to contractors who fail to deliver. We must start holding them accountable,” he said, his disappointment evident.
He also criticised the quality of the work already done, describing it as visibly substandard.
Mururani is one of five key checkpoints – including Welda, Divundu, Kongola and Oshivelo – selected for upgraded sanitation facilities.
The project aims to improve conditions for both officers stationed at these points and the travelling public, while also creating maintenance opportunities for unemployed youth.
For now, the project remains stalled, with empty sites and broken promises marking the Prime Minister’s second visit in as many weeks.
