RFA hosts 19-member DRC delegation for road visits
News in short
This week, the Road Fund Administration (RFA) hosted a 19-member delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who observed various roads and corridors in Namibia.
According to the World Economic Forum's global competitive report index of 2020, Namibia scored 5.2 out of seven in terms of road quality and infrastructure, ranking above neighbouring South Africa and Rwanda.
During a consultative meeting with the delegates on Tuesday, the RFA revealed that for the next five years, the Roads Authority (RA) will need N$1.5 billion for overall road maintenance. For unpaved road maintenance, RA will need N$816 million, it said.
DRC road fund chairman De'Alonzo Lubika said his delegation came to Namibia to learn from the progress made here.
"We realised that Namibia has a network of gravel roads which covers 80% of Namibia. The difference between Namibia and DRC is that DRC is not able to manage gravel roads.”
