Namport calls for public input on Lüderitz harbour expansion
The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) has invited interested and affected parties to participate in a public consultation process for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) study on the Port of Lüderitz\'s Robert Harbour expansion project.
Namport CEO Andrew Kanime said independent expert consultants had completed draft reports of the specialist studies conducted as part of the EIA process.
“These specialist studies included noise, visual, above-ground and underwater heritage assessments. These reports will now be presented to the public and all interested and affected parties (IAPs) in formal meetings scheduled for early October 2025 in Lüderitz,” Kanime said.
Two meetings – 3 October at 14:30 and 4 October at 10:00 – will be held at Turnhalle, on the corner of Ring and Klippen Roads, and facilitated by Geo Pollution Technologies. The purpose and content of the meetings will be the same, but they have been scheduled to accommodate the business community, employees and those who need to travel. The meetings will provide a platform for Geo Pollution Technologies to share information on the project and the environmental process while also gathering input from attendees.
Once the specialists have presented their findings, the public can submit written comments, questions and feedback.
The consultants will then use these inputs, together with the study results, to compile the final EIA and environmental management plan (EMP) reports, which will be submitted to the environment, forestry and tourism ministry and the National Heritage Council for final consideration.
