Dam levels much lower than last season

While much-needed rain broke the heat on Wednesday, the country’s dam levels are still significantly lower than last season.
The total average of Namibia’s dams stands at 61.4%, compared to last season’s 74.5%.
In the central areas of Namibia, the average level of the dams is now a low 29.3%, while last season, it stood at 46.9%.
The Swakoppooort Dam is at 51.8% of its capacity, the Von Bach Dam is 16.7% full and the Omatako Dam is empty.
This three-dam system supplies Windhoek with water, and the total average level of the these dams stands at 26.4%, compared to last season when they averaged 44.2%.
Meanwhile, the Friedenhau Dam is 61.9% full and the Goreangab Dam is at 92.9%.
In the south, the average level of the dams stands at 69.2%, compared to last season’s 83.6%.
The Neckartal Dam, Namibia’s largest, is at 88.7%. Last season, it was 95.8% full.
The level of the Hardap Dam near Mariental is a mere 24.7%, the Naute Dam is at 51.5% and the Oanob Dam 50.3% full.
In the east, the total average of the dam levels is a mere 4.9%, far less than last season’s 16.3%.
