LEADING BY EXAMPLE: The health and social services ministry has launched a nationwide clean-up campaign that will be held every three months across all regions to ensure hospitals and clinics are safe, dignified spaces for healing.
“As they say, charity begins at home – so does cleanliness. We cannot heal in places that aren’t clean. When we receive complaints about unclean hospitals, it is not only disappointing, it is embarrassing,” said health minister Dr Esperance Luvindao during the launch this week.
Leading by example, the minister and her executive team joined hands with facility staff to clean hospital grounds, showcasing a spirit of unity and accountability.
“We cannot expect our people to do what we are not willing to do ourselves. I have a newfound appreciation for our hygiene officers and maintenance staff. Working with these tools wasn’t easy. We must value the work that all our staff do and value them. Together, we must take responsibility for the cleanliness of our facilities. This is the only way for us to do better,” added Dr Luvindao.
All regional directors will be held accountable to ensure that the hospitals and clinics in their respective regions execute this initiative every three months. "Let’s take pride in our places of care. A clean hospital is the first step to healing."
