Windhoek Central Hospital - the only hospital in Namibia with a cardiac unit, which was founded in 2008 - received a generous donation of N$320 000 from Simonis Storm Securities on 11 April for the procurement of cardiac consumables.

The stock broker and wealth management firm has been operating in Namibia for over 25 years and falls under Lexus Securities, its holding company.

According to health ministry executive director, Namibia’s only cardiac unit has the necessary building blocks to operate, and that is why we are among the few African countries able to carry out various tests and procedures, which are performed by a team of specialists.

He added that what is required in the unit is consumables. These are items that are intended to be used up relatively quickly and are used during procedures and tests.

Simonis Storm’s donation was rooted in not only the need to fulfil its corporate social responsibility, but in also a friendship between Andrew Jansen, chairperson of Lexus Securities, and paediatrician Dr Solly Amadhila.

Jansen highlighted that they decided to donate to this particular cause because they know it will make an enormous change in the lives of many people - not only for patients, but also for the passionate specialists who work in the cardiac unit.

“As sister companies, Simonis Storm and Lexus urge the investment community to improve the lives of people who are less fortunate,” he added.
