Baby dies after vaccination
A six-week-old baby girl died on Monday afternoon, allegedly after a vaccine dose was administered to her at Okahao District Hospital.
Omusati Region police crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Moses Simaho, said a 23-year-old woman from Oshimanya village in the Okahao constituency took her twin baby girls to the hospital for immunisation.
The woman was in the company of her sister at the time, he said.
“While they were on their way back home, the mother was carrying one of her babies on her back. She removed her and noticed that the baby was dead and blood was coming out of her nose.”
Simaho said the incident was reported to the police.
The deceased has been identified as Nuugwanga Leevi. Her body was taken to the Okahao hospital where she was declared dead upon arrival.
“No injuries were observed on the deceased’s body. The remains have been taken to Okahao police mortuary for a post-mortem. No inquest is registered at the moment,” he said.
