Tsumeb to fine irresponsible dog owners

News in short
Kenya Kambowe
The Tsumeb municipality says it will fine irresponsible dog owners if they do not comply with regulations as per the Local Authority Act.

This is according to a public notice issued by the municipality on its social media platforms, cautioning dog owners to be more responsible in handling their pets - or risk facing a hefty fine.

“Owners must ensure that their dogs do not cause a nuisance to neighbours by continuously or excessively barking, howling or whining,” the notice read. “If a dog is potentially dangerous or aggressive, owners must take appropriate precautions to prevent it from attacking anyone visiting the premises for official duties. A visible notice stating ‘Beware of the Dog’ must be displayed at the entrance in legible writing. Owners are prohibited from inciting or encouraging their dogs to attack, hinder or intimidate any person or animal.”

The municipality said the violation of these regulations is an offence punishable by a fine not exceeding N$2 000 or imprisonment for up to two months, or both.
