Omuthiya council cracks down on illegal rubbish dumping
The Omuthiya Town Council has issued a stern warning to residents over the illegal dumping of waste, following reports of rubbish and construction debris being discarded in streets and near skip bins.
In a public notice issued this week, council spokesperson Martha Andreas said officials had observed a rise in improper waste disposal, including building rubble and other construction materials being dumped in public areas rather than at designated sites.
Andreas said such practices are strictly prohibited, warning that they create unsightly conditions, attract pests and pose serious health and environmental risks to the community.
She reminded residents that household refuse must be placed inside designated skip bins, while construction waste and building rubble should be taken only to approved disposal sites.
Dumping waste in streets, open spaces or next to bins is not allowed under any circumstances, she stressed.
She urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and order in the town, stressing that keeping Omuthiya clean is a shared responsibility.
“Let us all work together to maintain a clean town we can be proud of,” Andreas said.
