Namibia benchmarks from Angola
Northern neighbour an ‘inspiration’
By learning from Angola's challenges and successes, Namibia can better prepare herself for effective implementation in various sectors, Ithete said.
The Namibian Parliamentary Committee on Economics and Public Administration visited Angola last week to learn about local participation, industrialisation, investment promotion and economic diversification.
During the visit, chairperson Natangue Ithete underscored the significance of tapping into Angola's experiences in various domains to enhance Namibia's own economic strategies, saying Namibia’s northern neighbour is an inspiration.
“Your country's progress in these domains serves as an inspiration to us, and we believe that by engaging with your esteemed ministries and agencies, we can draw valuable insights that will aid our own endeavours.
“As we explore the rationale for the selection of Angola's national industrial development model, we must also remain vigilant in identifying any obstacles faced during its implementation. By learning from the challenges faced by our Angolan counterparts, we can better prepare ourselves for effective implementation back home,” he said.
Local participation
The delegation was particularly interested in the Angolan national industrial development model, which they are looking at implementing in Namibia, and also discussed Angola's strategic plan for local participation in industrial development.
Namibian lawmakers also discussed poverty alleviation - a shared concern - with their Angolan counterparts.
“Poverty alleviation remains a pressing concern for both our nations. By sharing experiences on this matter, we can develop more effective strategies to uplift our populations from poverty's grasp,” Ithete said.
“I urge that we approach these engagements with a shared commitment to fostering even stronger ties and cooperation between Namibia and Angola. We should also recognise that our nations face unique challenges and opportunities, and it is through such dialogues that we can harness our collective wisdom to address these challenges and seize the opportunities for the betterment of our people.”
