Kukuri replaces !Gawases at Mariental
Newly appointed local authority councillor
Abraham Kukuri has been sworn in as the new local authority councillor for the Mariental municipality, replacing Frensis !Gawases who resigned from both the council and the Landless People’s Movement (LPM) last month.
She was the chairperson of the council’s management committee, and resigned in early August.
Paul Nghiwilepo, the chief executive officer of the Mariental municipality, said Kukuri brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from the corporate world to the council.
"We believe he can use and share with all at the Mariental municipality to move the institution forward," Nghiwilepo said.
"Since my youth, I have been a community servant. Joining the council of the municipality fits perfectly with my lifestyle and I feel welcomed," Kukuri said.
"Apart from rendering my service to the people as a pastor, I will keep on doing so politically," he said.
“I will be a team player and making sure to assist wherever I can,” Kukuri said.
When asked about !Gawases, Nghiwilepo said she parted ways with the LPM and that there are no grudges held against her.
