//Kharas leaders meet to discuss roadmap for regional growth
Charting region’s energy future
The //Kharas Governor’s Symposium on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), under the theme ‘From Offshore Potential to National Prosperity’, will take place at the Lüderitz Old Power Station on 2 and 3 December.
The symposium, hosted by the Office of the Governor, will bring together traditional authorities, local authorities, national leaders, industry representatives and researchers to design a coordinated ESG approach for the region.
The platform supports the governor’s goal of driving community-centred development that aligns with national policies and strengthens long-term regional planning.
Attendance is open to all stakeholders involved in or interested in the region’s development.
The discussions will centre on the region’s industrial landscape, including mining, oil and gas, and green hydrogen – sectors which present major opportunities for employment, skills development and poverty eradication.
The symposium will also examine revenue models, equity participation, SME supply chain access and targeted training for youth. Details on participation and the programme will be released in due course.
Regional and national policymakers, traditional and community leaders, private sector executives, civil society organisations, SMEs, youth groups, and academic institutions are invited to attend.
Operators in mining, oil and gas, green hydrogen, tourism, hospitality, conservation, and all parties with an interest in the region’s socio-economic growth are also welcome.
The symposium aims to improve coordination between government, industry and communities. The focus will be on aligning ESG priorities with the Local Content Policy and NDP6 and gathering community-driven recommendations from traditional and local authorities. A research-informed ESG implementation roadmap for the region will be presented, and the //Kharas Energy Council will be officially launched at the event.
