Katjavivi applauds Unicef's Odede
Speaker of the National Assembly (NA), Peter Katjavivi, praised Unicef under the leadership of Rachel Odede on Tuesday for helping the government enrich its advocacy efforts, singling out Odede as a guiding light illuminating the path towards a brighter future.
Odede, who joined Unicef Namibia in 2017 and has devoted 30 years to uplifting and empowering children, ended her tenure this month and will return to her home country, Kenya, to retire and engage in large-scale farming.
"Rachel, your extended service, beyond the standard term for Unicef representatives, speaks volumes about your dedication to our nation’s children. Your efforts have not only borne fruit in the present, but they have also laid a solid foundation for the future. The impact of your work will continue to ripple through time, guiding our nation towards a more inclusive, compassionate and child-centred society," he said.
Legacy paves the way
He also added that her legacy will serve as a perpetual reminder of the heights that can be reached when collaboration, dedication, and a shared vision converge, and her influence will continue to be woven into the fabric of Namibia’s collective journey towards a better future for its children.
Katjavivi also pointed out that the research-based data provided through Namibia’s partnership with Unicef has been instrumental in shaping legislation, enhancing oversight mechanisms, and allocating resources to ensure a more equitable society for all.
