Former Omaruru management chair arrested by ACC
NEWS IN SHORT
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested former chairperson of the Omaruru municipality management committee, Hendrina Magano Gebhardt, over the alleged unprocedural appointment of her brother to a municipal position.
According to the ACC, Gebhardt allegedly directed the municipality’s CEO to appoint her brother as workshop foreman in 2012 despite him not being the highest-scoring or qualified candidate. The interview panel had recommended another applicant for the post.
The commission said Gebhardt “instructed and directed” the CEO to make the appointment and reportedly told him, “we brought you here".
She made her first appearance in the Omaruru Magistrate's Court on Monday and has been charged under the ACC Act for corruptly using her office for gratification. Gebhardt was granted bail of N$8 000, and the case was postponed to 4 December for plea and trial.
