Tigers FC, one of Namibia’s oldest football clubs, has been relegated from the Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL).

The club is joined by Rundu Chiefs and Life Fighters, who also dropped out of the top flight following this weekend’s results.

Tigers secured a 2-0 victory over Blue Waters but suffered a 3-2 defeat to Eleven Arrows on Sunday.

The outcome leaves Tigers on 24 points, eight behind Okahandja United and Khomas Nampol, who both survived relegation on 32 points.

Tigers have managed just five wins from 28 matches this season, while losing 14.

The Katutura giants, among the country’s most historic clubs, will now compete in the First Division next season.

They join the likes of Young Ones, Chelsea, Liverpool, Orlando Pirates and Black Africa—clubs that have all endured relegation from the top tier in the past.

Club chairman Dicky Akwenye described the relegation as a major setback but remains hopeful of a swift return.

“It is not good to see a team that has been doing well over the years get relegated.

“It is something difficult for all of us, and we hope the team can make a quick return,” Akwenye said.

Rundu Chiefs and Life Fighters also return to First Division football after gaining promotion to the top flight last season.

African Stars lead Eeshoke Chula Chula by one point, with both sides having already secured qualification for CAF competitions.

The league title will be decided in the remaining fixtures, with both teams still in contention.
