‘Fitness is a journey, not a quick fix’

For many, fitness is just a routine, something to tick off a daily checklist. But for Herman Hausiku, it has become a way of life rooted in passion.

Born and raised in Rundu, Hausiku represents his hometown with pride. “Coming from Rundu, I carry a deep sense of pride and resilience," he says. “Moving to Windhoek opened more doors and gave me exposure to a wider community, but I’ve never forgotten where I come from. It pushed me to work harder and stay grounded, knowing I represent both where I’m from and where I’m going.”

His transition from training personally to coaching others happened naturally. “It became clear when people started asking me for advice, and I saw their confidence and health improve because of the guidance I gave,” Hausiku says. “There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone transform not just physically, but mentally, and knowing you played a part in that.”

Know your goals

One area he feels strongly about is supporting pregnant women and new mothers in fitness. “I realised that many women, especially during and after pregnancy, don’t get the support they need when it comes to fitness,” he says.

“I wanted to create a safe space for them to feel strong, empowered and taken care of because fitness is for everyone, no matter what stage of life they’re in.”

When asked about the most common mistake people make when starting their fitness journey, Hausiku replies: “Trying to rush the process. Many people want instant results, and when they don’t see them, they give up. But fitness is a journey, not a quick fix. Consistency beats intensity every time.”

Staying disciplined in the middle of a demanding schedule is something Hausiku takes seriously. “I remind myself of my ‘why’. I know the goals I’m chasing, and I understand the responsibility I carry as a coach and role model. Discipline comes from vision; when you know what you’re working toward, it’s easier to stay focused, even when life gets tough.”

Of all the moments in his coaching career, one stands out most. “There have been a few, but one that stands out is helping a client who was postpartum regain her confidence and strength,” Hausiku recalls.

“Seeing her smile, feeling proud of her body again, that meant more than any photoshoot or fitness trophy.” To those struggling with body confidence, Hausiku offers this advice. “Start small, be kind to yourself, and don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Your body deserves love at every stage, not just when it ‘looks good’. Focus on building strength and confidence, and the rest will follow.”

Staying balanced

Away from the gym, Hausiku finds peace in simplicity. “I enjoy spending time with close friends and family, listening to music, and sometimes just taking a quiet walk to reflect,” he says.

“That balance helps me stay grounded."

As the conversation winds down, Hausiku imparts a final message. “I want people to know that I’m more than just a trainer or model. I’m someone who truly cares about helping others grow physically, mentally and emotionally. My mission is to create a space where everyone feels seen, supported and capable of becoming their best self no matter where they’re starting from.”
