Christmas Charity Golf Day brings hope to Senior Park elderly
Aurelia Afrikaner
Laughter echoed across the greens, the sun shone on a day of fun, and golfers teed off with purpose at this year’s Christmas Charity Golf Day – a celebration of sport, generosity and community spirit.

From the moment teams approached the first hole, the atmosphere was electric.

The Windhoek Express team was met with endless humour and cheerful banter, as golfers enthusiastically embraced the day’s mission.

When asked why they care about the elderly, one golfer said: “They looked after us, taught us and shared their wisdom. Now it’s our time to look after them.”

The Christmas Charity Golf Day took place last Friday and once again reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Senior Park Old Age Home.

The event was organised to give back to the elderly, who often feel forgotten during the festive season.

All funds raised, after covering event expenses, will go directly to supporting the more than 150 elderly residents who call Senior Park home.

Seventeen teams took part in the tournament, each driven not only by the thrill of the game but also by the desire to make a meaningful difference. Many of the seniors rely solely on their monthly government pension, leaving little room for essential items such as basic food, toiletries and personal care supplies.

Celebrating the elderly

These much-needed items will be purchased and wrapped as Christmas gifts for each resident.

A dedicated handover day is being planned, during which the gifts will be personally delivered. With the support of Kentucky Fried Chicken, the elderly will also enjoy a festive meal, accompanied by Christmas music to spread joy and holiday cheer. The exact date of this celebration will be announced soon.

The success of the event was made possible by the unwavering support of its sponsors and partners, who rallied behind this noble cause with enthusiasm and commitment.

Major contributors included Miko Coffee Namibia, Miko Coffee South Africa through a cash donation, Namibia Hospitality, World of Hygiene and Numatics International, which donated a valuable auction item. DZ Golf also supported the auction with additional items, while Feedmaster contributed a generous hamper.

Further financial support came from Securitas and Lientjie van Schoor.

Shoprite Checkers supplied all Christmas decorations, ensuring a festive atmosphere. Synergi Events and Windhoek Express played a key role in promoting the event, while Funfilled added excitement at hole 1 with an engaging activation that invited golfers to answer “Why do you care?”, rewarding the top three responses.

Thanks to every golfer, sponsor and volunteer, Christmas will shine a little brighter this year for the elderly residents of Senior Park.
