Whale carcass washes up in Walvis Bay lagoon
short news
The carcass of a humpback whale washed into the lagoon near Lover’s Hill in Walvis Bay yesterday morning.
According to the Marine Eco Foundation, Ocean Conservation Namibia collected measurements and samples for Sea Search, while Namport will oversee its removal.
The foundation urged the public to keep their distance, warning that whale carcasses can carry harmful bacteria.
The whale’s flukes have been recorded for Happywhale identification, and there is speculation it may be the same animal previously entangled in oyster farm ropes.
