JUST IN: Fisheries to increase protection of marine resources
The signing of the historic and legally binding "high seas treaty” has resulted in Namibia changing their aims to support that of the treaty. “The treaty is for high seas (international waters) and not for the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) which Namibian waters fall under. As part of the UN countries, Namibia aims to increase the current protection of EEZ which is 1.7% (our marine protected areas) to 15%. The country will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the goal is reached,” said Uaripi Katjiukua, the ministry's PRO.
