EIF puts millions behind youth and women to lead climate action

The Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) has approved 26 institutional grants benefiting individuals drawn from various priority sectors to a combined value of over N$3.7 million for the 2025/2026 financial year.

EIF spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said of the approved grants, eight are youth-led projects, while eleven are female-led initiatives.

This reflects EIF’s deliberate efforts to promote inclusivity, youth empowerment and gender equity in access to funding opportunities, he said.

Muyunda said the funding supports a diverse cohort of beneficiaries and interventions, demonstrating EIF’s balanced approach to equitable access, institutional strengthening and value for money.

EIF has committed grant funding amounting to approximately N$5 million under the Institutional Grants Facility for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Muyunda said these grants are intended to support initiatives that strengthen vulnerable livelihoods, enhance climate change adaptation, promote the sustainable use and management of natural resources and foster nature-based entrepreneurship.

“Collectively, these initiatives align seamlessly with Namibia’s sustainable development and climate resilience objectives.”

Broad range of projects

The approved grants comprise 12 start-up projects and 14 existing projects, with beneficiaries actively engaged in their respective activities.

Muyunda said in compliance with the grant conditions, signing of the memorandum of understanding with grantees is ongoing, ensuring effective coordination, accountability and sound implementation.

“In line with our commitment to equitable development, the EIF has made deliberate efforts to ensure broad regional representation, with all regions receiving an average of two funded projects each.”

The final selection process will continue until the full allocation of N$5 million in available grant funding is reached, after which a final announcement of all beneficiaries will be made.
