ANIMAL HEROES PROVIDE SAFE HAVEN
ANIMAL HEROES PROVIDE SAFE HAVEN: The SPCA celebrates 75 years of heartfelt care for animals, their protection and their welfare this year. Established in 1949 in Windhoek, Namibians across the country have cared for, fought for, and helped to improve the welfare of animals for over seven decades. In Windhoek, what started as modest kennels has grown into 96 dog kennels, 39 intake cat cages, five large catteries and seven small animal kennels; today they can care for as many as up to 400 animals at any given time. The Windhoek SPCA is equipped with a fully functioning veterinary clinic and theatre.
After years of operating independently, all Namibian SPCAs were brought together in 2018/2019 to operate and strategise under one umbrella. Since then, the SPCAs have collectively rescued 29 323 animals over the past six years and assisted many more along the way.
"Together, across Namibia, we have found forever homes for thousands of pets, provided essential medical care, and created a community where love and kindness flourish," the organisation said yesterday.
