The Ongwediva Town Council has completed two capital projects worth a combined N$7.9 million aimed at improving service delivery.

Mayor Naemi Amuthenu said the projects included the installation of an electrical reticulation network in Extension 12 Phase 1 and an upgrade of the sewerage rising main from Pump Station No. 3 to the oxidation ponds.

The electrical project, valued at about N$4.9 million, started in December 2025 and was completed on 28 July. The sewerage upgrade, valued at about N$3 million, started in January this year and was completed at the end of July.

“Capital projects are fundamental to our mission as a local authority since they transform our plans and public resources into tangible services and infrastructure that directly benefit our communities,” Amuthenu said.

Enhancing lives

She said the projects demonstrate accountability, the responsible use of public funds and the fulfilment of council's mandate to deliver services.

"For our residents, this translates into enhanced municipal services, improved living conditions, and a robust foundation for community development,” she said.

The mayor added that the projects "stand as visible proof" of the town's progress and development.

“Our council remains dedicated to accelerating service delivery, expanding essential infrastructure, and creating a sustainable and economically vibrant Ongwediva for the benefit of both present and future generations,” she noted.

Chairperson of the management committee, Juliana Haimbodi, praised the collaboration among the council, management, technical teams, contractors and stakeholders.

“These projects serve as a reminder that when we unite toward a common objective, we can achieve impactful results for our town,” Haimbodi remarked.

“As we officially hand over these projects, let us pledge to ensure that the infrastructure is well-maintained and utilised for the benefit of our residents for many years to come,” she added.
