Walvis Bay Gymnasium opens its doors

The Walvis Bay Gymnasium was officially inaugurated on 16 January, setting the stage for academic excellence, all-inclusive development, and a promising future. The inauguration brought together educators, community leaders, parents and students to celebrate the completion of a vision to provide quality education in Walvis Bay.During the event, the school&#039;s board members and key stakeholders expressed their gratitude for the collaborative efforts that led to the establishment of this state-of-the-art educational institution.Walvis Bay mayor Trevino Forbes was tasked with cutting the ribbon, officially declaring the Walvis Bay Gymnasium open.Facilities and infrastructureThe school showcases modern classrooms, a library, well-equipped laboratories which include science laboratories, robotics labs, computer labs and sports facilities that are yet to be completed in the upcoming months. Upon completion, the school will provide elite sport coaching, facilities and equipment.Managing director of Curro Education Namibia, Colette Rieckert, said: “Today we are starting with 350 learners. I am confident that, just as in the case of Windhoek Gymnasium, the numbers will soon increase rapidly as many more parents realise the value of the offering of Walvis Bay Gymnasium.”Rieckert said her vision for the school is for it to create excellent outcomes for learners, to provide a strong foundation in academic studies, as well as the development of soft skills and leadership, which remain a priority.The school&#039;s administration reiterated its commitment to academic excellence, character development and community engagement. Plans for innovative teaching methodologies, extracurricular activities and partnerships with local businesses were unveiled, emphasising the holistic development of students.Beacon of educationForbes praised the speed and precision with which the facility was constructed, describing it as a testament to the dedication and hard work of all those involved.“The opening of the Walvis Bay Gymnasium holds great significance for our community, especially at a time when our country is grappling with challenges in student performance and overcrowding in schools,” he said.The school stands not just as a physical structure but as a beacon of hope, a place where the aspirations of the community are nurtured and transformed into a brighter future.
