NURTURING HERITAGE
NURTURING HERITAGE: On 17 March, the education ministry proudly launched the Namibia Arts, Culture and Heritage Policy (NACHP). This important policy aims to strengthen Namibia's creative and cultural industries, foster national identity, and position arts, culture and heritage as key drivers of sustainable development. "The ministry envisions nurturing, developing and celebrating the cultures, heritage and artistic expressions of all Namibians, contributing to an improved quality of life," the ministry said in a statement. The policy will also enhance infrastructure development and capacity building, improving the management, protection, and promotion of arts, culture, and heritage for commercialisation. During her speech, former education minister Ester Anna Nghipondoka highlighted how the policy is expected to accelerate efforts in integrating arts, culture and heritage into the national education system. It will also promote research in these fields for the benefit of future generations. Sanet Steenkamp, who was appointed as the new education minister last weekend, was also presented at the event.
