DWN launches outreach to promote clean, safe communities

NEWS IN SHORT
STAFF REPORTER
The Development Workshop Namibia (DWN), with support from KfW Development Bank, Comundo, and the Minderoo Foundation, has announced the launch of a comprehensive nationwide mass community outreach campaign focused on water and sanitation practices and early childhood development (ECD). The campaign commenced on 1 September and will run for a month.

The initiative will directly engage communities in informal settlements across Namibia, including Windhoek, Karibib, Swakopmund, Otjiwarongo, Rundu, Opuwo, Oshakati, Ondangwa, Oniipa and Katima Mulilo. Through house-to-house visits and information sharing, the campaign's core mission is to promote positive social behaviour change by providing accurate, evidence-informed information that will make communities safer, cleaner and more conducive for children.

The campaign will focus on two critical programme areas. The urban sanitation programme tackles essential sanitation and hygiene challenges head-on. Its goal is to identify environmentally and economically sustainable solutions by providing communities with simple strategies for building affordable toilets using readily accessible materials.

The early childhood development programme underscores the vital importance of investing in the earliest years of a child’s life, from conception to school-going age.
