'Everything is gone': Self-employed mum of three’s shack destroyed by fire

“There’s no use rushing home, everything is gone...”

This was the heartbreaking news Christina Chigondora, 36, received from a neighbour on Monday.

A loving mother of three and a well-known, self-employed artisan who sells her handmade arts and crafts on the streets of Eros, Christina realised she had lost everything when her shack in Goreangab Dam was destroyed by a fire on Monday afternoon.

Christina, who has for years earned a living selling her crafts on the roadside to care for her 13-year-old son, 11-year-old daughter and one-year-old baby boy, received the crushing call while working away from home.

When Namibian Sun spoke to her yesterday, Christina was standing in front of the ashy remnants of her former home.

“I don’t know what to do or where we will sleep, but God is good even in this,” she said. She added that the only possessions not destroyed in the blaze were the clothes she and her children were wearing that day, along with the few items she had been carrying with her.

Anyone willing to help Christina and her children rebuild their lives can donate clothes, food, blankets, toiletries or building materials – all of which are urgently needed. Any assistance is welcome.

For further information or to make a donation, contact Christina Chigondora on 264 85 797 3366, or Tina Victor at Namibian Sun on 264 (61) 383 400 | [email protected].

No contribution is too small – every bit of kindness counts.
