Okahao to host second expo
Okahao will be hosting a second expo - the Ehao Cultural and Business Expo - in the Omusati Region after a three-year pause since its first expo due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over the past weekend, the town raised close to N$300 000 in pledges at a fundraising dinner.
The event is scheduled to take place from 26 June to 02 July at Okahao's Ehao Centre under the theme ‘Connecting Businesses towards Creating the Future'.
Deputy minister of industrialisation and trade, Verna Sinimbo, said the theme encapsulates the purpose of the expo, which is to connect businesses with each other and with potential clients and suppliers.
Teamwork
Okahao mayor Cornelia Iiyambula thanked the sponsors for their support and the funds raised for the second edition of the expo.
Iiyambula said while the town, like many others, suffered the devastating impacts of the pandemic, she is hopeful that their small and medium enterprises will once again benefit from marketing themselves.
The town’s chief executive officer, Junias Jacob, and the chairperson of the expo's preparatory committee, said they are indebted to their stakeholders for contributing to the upliftment of the town.
"As well as for giving support towards our vision of becoming a socially and economically stable town in the not-too-distant future," Jacob said,
He said business promotion is the key driver of a town's local economic development.
Jacob said the Okahao town council conceived the idea of hosting an expo in 2018.
"A similar gala dinner was held, and the first ever expo was hosted by mid-year of 2019. The first edition of the expo attracted over 100 exhibitors – including international exhibitors from as far away as Tanzania and India," Jacob said.
