Woman survives brutal rape, stabbing attack
A 27-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after surviving a horrific attack involving rape, attempted murder and robbery at Omalyata village in the Omungwelume district, Ohangwena region, late Monday night.
Ohangwena police crime and investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Melanie Mbuuru, confirmed the incident to Namibian Sun on Wednesday.
Mbuuru said the attack took place at around 23:00 on 16 June.
The suspect, whose identity is still unknown, reportedly broke into the victim’s bedroom, demanded money and a cellphone, and then raped her.
The woman told police that when she told the attacker she had nothing to give, he stabbed her multiple times with a knife, targeting her left upper ribs and right thigh.
Tried to fight back
Mbuuru said the victim had initially overpowered the suspect when he attempted to stab her, and a violent struggle ensued.
The woman also attempted to flee, but the attacker chased her down and forced her back into the room, where he continued his demands before raping her and inflicting multiple stab wounds.
Eventually, the woman managed to flee her attacker.
“She managed to escape out of her room into another room where there was no one, jumped through the window and managed to jump over a wall fence into a neighbour’s yard, where she finally received help,” Mbuuru said.
The victim is receiving treatment at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where her condition is reported as stable.
No arrests have been made and police investigations are ongoing.
The police have urged anyone with information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspect to come forward immediately.
