A 33-year-old man sustained multiple wounds after he was reportedly slashed with a panga by a woman who says she was defending herself during a rape last week.

The man had allegedly lured her to his home in Oshikweyo village, Oshana region, with an offer for employment.

Police said the suspect suffered cuts to his head and both arms when the woman fought back to prevent the attack on Tuesday.

Despite trying to fight off her attacker, the police said the man eventually overpowered her and raped her.

Oshana crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, said the suspect allegedly invited the complainant to his home with the promise of a job as a nanny.

The woman told police that when she arrived, there were no children in the house.

Instead, the suspect allegedly dragged her into his room by force and demanded sex, which she refused.

Ndjadila said the suspect then reportedly assaulted the woman, causing injuries to her left cheek and right hand.

During the struggle, the woman said she grabbed a panga and struck the man several times in an attempt to defend herself. Nevertheless, despite the injuries sustained by the suspect, he raped the woman.

The man has since been arrested and is expected to appear in court.

Ndjadila warned that police have recorded similar cases where men lure women with fake job offers and then demand sexual favours.

He urged women to be vigilant and to take a friend along when responding to job offers.
