Two arrested in 10-year-old girl murder, manhunt for third suspect

Aurelia Afrikaner
A 10-year-old girl was allegedly murdered over the weekend in the Omaheke region, with police saying two 22-year-old suspects have been arrested while a third remains at large.

According to the Namibian Police’s weekend crime report, the child was found wrapped in a bedsheet in Freedom Square, Epako. Investigations are ongoing.

In Tsandi, a 21-year-old Angolan man died from stab wounds sustained during a scuffle at a cuca shop, the report noted. An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the case.

Two rape cases are also being investigated.

In Eenhana, a 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his aunt after threatening her with a knife, the police report stated. In Tsumkwe, police are investigating a case in which a 39-year-old woman was allegedly attacked while walking home.

Several attempted murders and robberies are also under investigation, including stabbings and assaults in Ongwediva and Okahao, reportedly arising from quarrels. Victims in both cases sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital, police said.

Multiple armed robberies and housebreakings were reported, including in Swakopmund, Klein Windhoek, Windhoek’s central business district, Katutura and Henties Bay. In Windhoek, armed suspects targeted a Southern Cross Security cash delivery vehicle, firing shots and fleeing with a shotgun and cash. No arrests were made in any of the robbery cases at the time of reporting.

Police also recorded multiple cases of stock theft in Ovitoto, Koes, Kalkfeld and Eenhana, with several suspects arrested and livestock carcasses recovered.

Drug-related arrests were made in Keetmanshoop, Aroab and Mangetti Dune, where suspects were found in possession of cannabis and cash believed to be proceeds of drug dealing.

Other crimes reported included housebreaking, theft from motor vehicles, possession of suspected stolen property and attempted robbery. In Cimbebasia, Windhoek, a man died after being shot during an attempted robbery when the targeted victim reportedly fired at the suspect.

Devastating losses

Police say two young children tragically died over the weekend, but that no foul play was suspected in either of the cases.

On Friday in Ongwediva, a two-year-old boy died on arrival at the Onamutayi Health Centre. Authorities have said there is no indication of foul play.

In Grootfontein, an inquest has also been opened into the death of a four-month-old Angolan baby who died at her home early on Saturday morning.

In Ondangwa, a 61-year-old pensioner reportedly drowned in a pond, and a 37-year-old man was found dead in an earth dam in Oshakati. Police said no foul play was suspected in either case.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing in all reported cases, with several suspects expected to have made their first appearance in various magistrate courts yesterday.
