Twins found dead in trunk

Four-year-old twin boys died after getting trapped in a metal trunk at Okatope village in the Oshikoto Region’s Okankolo constituency.

The incident took place on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Simaneka and Panduleni Angula.

Oshikoto police commander, Commissioner Teopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku, said it is alleged that the brothers were left home alone by their mother at about 05:00 that morning.

The woman reportedly visited family in the same village and then joined them when they collected eembeke in the forest.

“At about 18:00, the mother arrived back home and found the deceased dead in a trunk which was in the sleeping room.”

The trunk was closed, but not locked, she said.

The boys’ bodies have been transported to Onandjokwe State Hospital for a postmortem.

Girl raped

In a separate incident, a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old cattle herder on Saturday at Onaanda village in the Omusati Region’s Elim constituency.

Crime investigations coordinator Moses Simaho said it is alleged that the suspect was looking after animals with the victim near their house when he removed her clothes, ordered her to lie down on the ground and raped her.

The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court this week.
