Three tourists robbed in Windhoek
News in short
Three men robbed three French tourists in Windhoek on Tuesday.
The incident happened around 16:00 on Voight Street in front of Chameleon Backpackers.
The three women had just arrived in Windhoek and were driving to their overnight accommodation. They got out of the vehicle when three men, one armed with a knife, got out of a red Volkswagen GTI sedan and shot at them. The driver remained seated in the vehicle.
CCTV footage shows the three suspects attacking the three tourists and each grabbing a backpack.
"Everything from the girls was stolen. Their cash, bank cards, passports, cell phones – everything – and this after barely arriving in the country. Today, they want to go home," said Jackie Burton of Chameleon Backpackers.
"If anyone recognises the vehicle with the registration number N215722W, they can contact us so that we can notify the police."
She added: "Let's work together to get the people off the street. Men who think it is acceptable to beat and threaten women should be removed. The incident happened while our car guard was busy with other people."
