Three suspects were arrested on Wednesday for an attempted robbery in Walvis Bay.
Inspector Ileni Shapumba, commander for community affairs in the Erongo region, confirmed the incident.
According to him, the police arrested three local men for conspiracy to commit robbery and displaying a fake registration number, after receiving information about the planned robbery.
"Investigations revealed that the suspects rented a VW Polo, tinted it and changed number plates. After a successful police chase from town to Kuisebmond, the police also found three sets of different number plates in the car," he said.
Shapumba pointed out that cases of robberies and attempted robberies in which fake registration plates are used "are increasingly becoming a concern to us".
"It appears that there is not much control in acquiring vehicle registration plates. We request that printing shops improve control over the printing and issuing of registration plates. One should not claim a vehicle registration plate/number unless such a person is in possession of authentic proof of ownership from Natis." Shapumba said.
