A 19-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Wanaheda at the weekend, in one of several serious crimes reported across Namibia between 12 and 14 September.

Police confirmed that the victim, Ernesto Lucas Ngongo Ndara, died in hospital after being attacked with a kitchen knife on Saturday morning.

The weekend police report stated that Ndara and another boy had gone to fetch water when two men approached them.

After an exchange of words, one of the suspects allegedly chased Ndara and stabbed him in the back. Although relatives rushed him to the hospital after noticing heavy bleeding, he did not survive. A suspect has since been arrested in Okahandja, police confirmed.

The stabbing was part of a string of violent incidents being investigated by police.

In Oshakati, a case of child rape was reported to the police after a five-year-old girl told her mother she had been sexually assaulted by her 14-year-old cousin.

In Windhoek, armed robbers reportedly struck in both Ludwigsdorf and Dorado Park, the report noted.

In the first case, three masked men forced their way into a home at dawn, according to police, held the occupants at gunpoint and assaulted one of them before escaping with valuables worth about N$86 000.

Hours later, two suspects stormed a student house in Dorado Park, robbing the occupants of electronics and cash totalling close to N$50 000. No arrests have been made.

In Ongwediva, five men armed with a gun and a hammer fired shots during a raid on a mini market, fleeing with goods and money valued at more than N$45 000.

The weekend crime report further revealed cases of theft, fraud and drug-related arrests.

In Windhoek, a man was reportedly defrauded of N$188 870 in a banking scam, while vehicles were broken into in Otjiwarongo, with goods worth more than N$60 000 stolen.

Police also seized cannabis and mandrax in operations at Okahandja, Tses, Karasburg, Rosh Pinah and Khorixas.

The police reported that suspects were caught with illegally hunted game in Oshikoto and Kavango West valued at nearly N$100 000.
