Suspect flees after alleged rape of 86-year-old woman

A manhunt is underway in Kavango East following the alleged rape of an 86-year-old woman at Popa village in the Mukwe constituency shortly after midnight on Friday. Police said the suspect, whose age was not disclosed, entered the woman's room while she was asleep.

The victim’s granddaughter reportedly discovered the incident and raised the alarm. The suspect, believed to be known to the victim, fled and remains at large.

Police are also investigating two murder cases, one in Oshana and another in the Omaheke region.

In the Okaku area, a 15-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly stabbing a 19-year-old man in the early hours of Saturday.

A 26-year-old man died in Epako, Gobabis, after being stabbed following an alleged fight with two other men on Friday night.

He managed to return to his house before collapsing and was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. Two suspects have been arrested and remain in custody.

Police are also investigating an attempted murder in the Aroab district of the ǁKaras region after a dispute allegedly escalated when a suspect struck a man with a car before fleeing the scene.

The man was hospitalised, and the suspect has since been arrested and is expected to appear in court.

Several housebreaking and theft cases were reported in Outjo, Otjomuise and Gochas. Lodges in the Outjo area were targeted, while a home in Otjomuise in Windhoek was broken into during the day. Some stolen property has been recovered, though several suspects remain unidentified.

In Kavango West, a 25-year-old man was arrested after being found in possession of suspected stolen items during a police roadblock. He remains in custody.

Stock theft cases were recorded in the Koës and Coblenz areas, with multiple suspects arrested after police intercepted stolen livestock. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

In Ohangwena, a suspect was arrested for dealing in controlled wildlife products without a permit and is expected to appear in court.
