Suspect arrested after vicious attack on woman at Aroab farm
A 61-year-old woman was reportedly attacked and raped on Sunday while her husband was away on a hunting trip.
According to police, she was assaulted at their farm in the Aroab area of the //Kharas Region. The suspect also robbed the family’s home before fleeing.
Regional crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Nicodemus Mbango, said the suspect allegedly stole money and escaped into the mountainous terrain surrounding the farm.
“The victim managed to seek help from neighbours,” he told Namibian Sun this week, adding that the police and the region’s crime prevention forum were alerted to the incident.
Massive search launched
In response, police, farmers and community members launched a large-scale search operation.
According to a member of the Aroab Farmers’ Association (FA), they immediately began tracking the suspect.
Around 50 vehicles and even a gyrocopter were deployed during the search. Security was also tightened in the region and at the Rietfontein border post.
Mbango confirmed the arrest of the suspect early Monday morning.
“The suspect, a Namibian man, was arrested at around 03:00 in the town of Aroab,” he said.
According to Mbango, the suspect is expected to appear in court this week.
