Sleeping woman suffocates baby
News in short
In a freak accident in the Omusati Region, a woman allegedly accidentally suffocated her baby while they were both asleep.
The four-month-old baby girl’s lifeless body was discovered by her father, who reportedly found his wife lying on top of their daughter while fast asleep.
The deceased has been identified as Kagetuza Magadarena Erastus.
Police crime coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho, said Erastus was pronounced dead on arrival at Oshikuku hospital.
"[The woman’s husband] tried to wake her up, but she was unresponsive, so he removed the child and realised that the baby was not breathing," he said.
According to Simaho, the woman and the baby had been at the cuca shops earlier that day.
The man called the police for assistance and an ambulance and by the time help arrived, the woman was still sleeping, he said. Police investigations into the matter continue.
