SHORTS: Woman arrested for allegedly killing own brother
A 24-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her brother to death during a domestic dispute at Oshikuni village in the Okongo constituency of the Ohangwena Region.
The incident occurred around 01:30 on Sunday morning, when the suspect returned home from nearby cucashops and found her 30-year-old brother, Tomas Abraham, sleeping in their mother’s hut, as there are only two huts in the house – one belonging to their father - according to Ohangwena police regional commander, Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa.
“It is alleged that upon arrival, the suspect began insulting their mother. When Abraham intervened and asked her to stop, a heated argument broke out between the siblings,” Kashuupulwa said.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Abraham once in the chest, fatally wounding him.
The deceased was rushed to the Okongo District State Hospital, where he was declared dead. His body has since been transferred to the Okongo Police Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. His next of kin have been informed.
Police said the family homestead consists of only two huts – one belonging to the father, and another shared by the mother and all the children, including the suspect and the deceased.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. She is expected to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 24 June 2025. Police investigations are ongoing.
