Shorts: Man kills wife and shoots daughter before killing himself

A family tragedy unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning when a man allegedly shot and killed his wife, injured their teenage daughter, and then took his own life at their home in Greenwell Matongo.According to a police report, the incident took place at around 01:30 at a house in Ermina Street. The couple’s 18-year-old daughter told police she was in her bedroom with her six-year-old brother when she heard her mother calling for help.When she entered her parents' room, she found them standing at the door – her father holding a gun. He allegedly pushed her aside before an apparent scuffle between the couple moved into the sitting room.Moments later, a gunshot rang out. The daughter, who had moved into the kitchen, was struck in the right thigh by the bullet. As she crawled back to her room to reach her phone, she heard two more shots – the last of which came from the parents' bedroom.After calling her aunt, she went to check and found her mother bleeding on the floor of the sitting room and her father lying motionless on the bed.Paramedics from the City of Windhoek emergency services declared both parents dead at around 02:36. The deceased have been identified as Elizabeth Nepando Hambelela Alweendo (43) and her husband, Alweendo David (53).Their daughter is currently receiving treatment at Katutura State Hospital, where she is reported to be in serious but stable condition. The six-year-old sibling was unharmed.The motive behind the violence remains unknown, and police investigations are ongoing.
