SHORT: Police officer denied bail over alleged inmate rape
A police officer stationed at Ncaute police station in Kavango West, Ruben Haimbili Kankono (32), has been denied bail following his first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on charges of raping a female inmate.
Kankono appeared before Magistrate Selma Shiiga, who postponed the case to 17 April. Public prosecutor Michael Munika opposed bail, citing the severity of the offence and the need for further investigations.
According to police reports, Kankono allegedly raped a 22-year-old female inmate on two separate occasions—on 22 January and again on 23 January —inside the Ncaute police station holding cells.
