Seven ‘active’ cases in Zambezi, ACC reveals

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) senior investigating officer Albert Zaako says seven corruption cases from the Zambezi Region are currently under investigation. He made these remarks last week at the ACC&#039;s second regional forum consultation on the Anti-Corruption Strategy Action Plan."The first case, the most recent one, involves issues related to boreholes. A certain company was involved, and whether the procedures were followed is still under investigation. This case is from 2024, so it is very new, and we are still working on it," Zaako said.“We have received an audit report from the ministry regarding the regions. We are reviewing the allocations mentioned in the report to determine which ones are under our investigation and which are not. I approved this for investigation, which means we are going to send a team to investigate all these cases further.”Procedures not followedZaako highlighted another case involving an engineering consulting company, which was awarded a tender valued at N$4.6 million. "The proper procedures were not followed for this tender in the Zambezi Region. This case is from the town council and dates back to 2020. It has not yet been addressed, however, we are still working on it," he said.He further noted that the works ministry has another case from 2010 still under investigation."It was sent to the prosecutor-general for a decision on whether to prosecute. Similarly, we are looking at a case from the youth ministry. There might be other cases you know of that are not listed here. Some of these cases are already in court and no longer under investigation. One of the staff members from the Zambezi Regional Council is involved in a case that is now in court," he said."We are currently looking at seven cases, some already in court. As we gather more information, we need to decide whom to prosecute. Our goal is to either prove or disprove the allegations. We, as commissioners of the state, are committed to this process," Zaako added.nikanor@erongo.com.na
